GEO. WOODWARD (AUSTRALIA) EARLY 1900'S-QUOTE

''Poultry literature is a microbe, it dies on unsuitable soil, but to all cultured races of the world,if the environments and surroundings are suitable, the germ is easily impregnated into the mind, which incubates and starts the emotions, the brain begins to feed the system, and a picture of fowls, a poultry exhibition, a foster mother or hen with day old chicks, fixes the will power, while the eye is also entranced by the mannerisms of young life. Maybe it is the young life in the human race, the animal world, and bird life, which captivates and thrills our magnetism, and the babyhood days of chicks or ducklings have almost a sentimental attraction for all classes young and old, and no matter how hardened our faculties, the all-seeing eye is pivot, and commands the brain for the moment.'' GEO. WOODWARD.1914

AND thus we collect these books and we breed these chooks.. It never surprises me how straight fwd the thinking and logic was of these great writers, breeders and judges, they seem to mirror a lot of my thinking moreso than the current thinkings of the world, the 1800's writers were more ahead of their time than ever. It goes to show that our changing of standards and opinions are very disrespectful to the understandings of generations before us. Even back to the 1850's when History of the Hen Fever was written, this book outlines not just the chicken business from boom to bust, it is recommended reading to every Stockbroker, Fund Manager,Politician, to the ways of mankind , greed, intelligence, planning, circumstance, promotion. false bottoms, strategy, etc, etc, etc, The  irony at the end of this book with its LAST SUPPER chapter is a delicious treat, the World and where it finds itself now is only from a generation that knows nothing of the past, except for yesterdays false profit made from thin air.
Old Gamefowl  writers are exceptional in their vision and ability to work with nature, not just their fowls but the land, that grew the feed , the timber, etc.the terrain for shelter, the neighbours and their problems. These men are sorely missed. We have however the multitude of writings that are left behind. The education that they posessed was adequate for the day. they could measure lumber obtained  from a pile of timber down to the inch .the math used was incredibly strong, estimation being used obtaining results as close as any calculator.
